Mohsen Meysami is a multidisciplinary artist and graphic designer based in Melbourne, Australia. Meysami completed a PhD in FIne Arts at RMIT University in 2019 with a thesis titled Nearness and Distance; Exploring the notion of indifference through the lens of Middle Eastern traditional arts. Through studio explorations and theoretical investigations, the project examined how Middle Eastern traditional arts could be used for making new artworks that address the complex issues of wars and the suffering they inflict on people’s lives. Meysami is interested in utilising a variety of mediums including, drawing, textile, and graphic art. His artworks range from intricate bead-works on found Persian Kilims to site-specific thread installations and public art projects.

Beside from his passion for art, Meysami leads a successful career as a graphic designer. He has received his B.A. and M.A. in Graphic Design and has worked as a professional graphic designer since 2003. Winner of the first prize for The Iranian Art Students Competition in 2003, he has also received the highest honor and was awarded recognition for The Iranian Young Graphic Designers Competition in 2009. Meysami has continued to work as a graphic designer in Australia, predominantly working freelance with a multitude of clients. Some notable projects include identity and branding for West Vision Homes, Bespoke Living and Amazing Iran. In 2019 he was commissioned to design The South Australian National Football League multicultural football.

Meysami has exhibited in Australia and internationally and his work is held in public and private collections. His works have been selected as finalist in a number of awards including the Arte Laguna Venice 2018, Fisher’s Ghost Art Award 2018, Wangaratta Contemporary Textile Award, and Incinerator Art Award. In 2017, he won the Footscray Art Prize 2017 Tertiary Award.
